Nothing. In fact, in this case the Windows Firewall service was completely turned off, disabled at startup and not even running. Temporarily stopped firewall (AVAST) and was successfully able to ping/tracert to www.google.com.
It could have been a Windows Update or possibly Vista Service Pack 2 that caused the issue to appear, but I really cannot say. It is a McAfee bug. Ran the ipconfig options, checked and changed the ip addresses and DNS addresses, turned on and off the tcpipv4&6 protocols. How did you manage to run it? gmail.com, not even to the local routers, e.g. 192.168.0.1).
