I was myself surprised having heard a lot of negative comments. I have about 12 different copies of explorer.exe on my PC, and I've used every one to the same result. It's actually an old idea -- a very, very old idea -- circa 1990. I've restored my PC to a few days before the problem started, but still, no icons. my review here

Even though win8 was released probably too early and it really sucks for desktop, it is a very good starting point for touch laptop. I have not lost any data, and as far as I can see, there are no other problems with my system. Look for a new style start button/menu in W9 with a incredibly stupid reason why they are bringing it back. Check this box for the classic interface. But, now I have a taskbar.
