Can't Read From The Source File Or Disk While Copying From Cd I don't know if it makes any difference on the command for prompt. So I copied the contents into another folder, and then deleted the bad folder ( rd "\\?\c:\folder\folder\bad name"). For example, if your file is a huge 5GB movie file, then you won't be able to copy it to an external hard drive that is formatted with FAT16.

Ijust noticed this site - two days back - Please help me. So at a command prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) I was able to delete the file using: del "\\?\C:\Temp\Stuff\Sales Agreement." I use the Cobian Backup utility (free) for other folders and I noticed it successfully removed folders I couldn't - AND - on the Cobian "Tools" menu, there's a utility called Can't Read From The Source File Or Disk Cd Lynne February 9. 2009 23:15 No problem. I tried Safe Mode, i tried overwriting with another folder (unamed and with the same name)...no joy. Clearly on a subconscious level I have deep trust issues.
I spent the last 30 mins of my life searching for this issue in google and I've found only really stupid suggestions and explanations of this little problem. YThe filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.I tried thru Unlocker, but no results. c:\documents and settings\eric>cd\press enter and it will now showC:\now type the file you want to delete and it will look like this:C:\ del \\?\c:\documents and settings\eric\desktop\annoyingfile. Had a dozen jpg files that my Father downloaded on his desktop that I could not get rid of till I read this article.
