It deleted that annoying file right off of my desktop with easy! i had an ugly file for years and the only option seemed like formatting the disk..thanks a for a making my day... Is there some significance to the 'original location', I don't know its context versus the other 'location' you're trying to copy/paste/delete from. It has been dealt with and life will resume. I could not figure out why del "\\?\C:\Documents and Settings\jsmith\Desktop\CAFUM93N." was not working. Ben May 26. 2009 10:59 Thanks Keith, that worked perfectly. Had a dozen jpg files that my Father downloaded on his desktop that I could not get rid of till I read this article. If not, you might get ‘Can't read from the source file or disk‘ error message when trying to move the file. Copying always works becuase new content is created and a new entry in the db is required.
