My xp machine has a user account that needs a password. I installed an external adapter which gave internet access on both machines but no sharing of files or printer. it reached the point where I could see other win7 pc's on the network. by default ur computer will be member of work group with a preset profile naming "WORKGROUP" Step #5: rename tht profile name from workgroup to something like shareme and hit http://fortecrm.net/network-windows/cannot-see-windows-7-computer-on-workgroup.html
