In addition, you have to use the username and password (referred to as SMTP authentication); AND port number (465 for SSL / 587 for TLS). So, if you are using COX HSI, that ISP does NOT use authentication, and you should UNCHECK the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Cox HSI uses smtp.(area).cox.net.
