This is a permanent fix on a per-machine basis, but it would be nice if the kernel were fixed to only output the error once (and/or automatically fix the checksum), as Andy5201987 my name is Andy (andy5201987) I need some help w/ kopete messenger v.0.10.3 I was allready in the IRC for kopete kimo Sonny, tar zxvf *.tar.gz ? darkcmd Fedora always feels rushed. Is there any reason (security-related or otherwise) to even check the VPD checksum? TonyStark mikeo1, you must know whici one it is, in order to insert the driver for it (in linux it is called module) SerajewelKS rodrigo: check the keyboard config CalJohn rodrigo Is it just that the programmers of the affected BIOSes forgot to calculate the VPD checksum?
Comment 2 Oliver Jowett 2004-11-17 13:07:36 UTC I have the same problem on the same hardware. This signature or product key (or whatever you may wish to call it) is read by the device driver every time the LAN card is initialized / de-initialized so that the I also noticed that the diagnostics tool (yukondg.exe) when run before the EEPROM update complained about a VPD checksum/format error. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-networking-3/d-link-dge-530t-gige-gives-error-cannot-read-vpd-keys-312318/ Comment 1 Luke Hutchison 2004-11-05 06:40:34 UTC I figured out that the reason I get the error every second is because nifd is checking the interface status at 1 sec intervals.
Maybe a gpl'd tool like Yukon's that corrects the checksum would be a better solution than patching the driver as a work around. Andy5201987 my name is Andy thingfish well he's an idea man, they all can be PITAs. I also reported this to redhat bugzilla, bug number 136158. by the GNOME System Monitor applet. UFO debian 64bit channel? Since the VPD area appears to have system-specific data (serial numbers etc) it seems hard to generalize this without knowing if there is a pattern to the bad checksums. check over here Format For Printing -XML -Clone This Bug -Top of page First Last Prev Next This bug is not in your last search results.
So it's possible the Shuttle guys ran the update, then decided to change a VPD key manually, and didn't re-calculate the checksum. Data transfer on the interface seems flawless. Can anyone tell me what is this error and how it is fixed?
Neither of these drives checks the checksumThe skge.ko driver worked on my system so I set it in the /etc/modprobe.conf file as the driver for ETH0Ther appears to be no automated
A quick kludge of setting that file to zero size prevents any growth. For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. Since this machine does not require continual connection to the internet, another dumb workaround would just be to turn eth0 on when needed and then off. mikeo1 what does that mean?

Both show the same problem. It's not even clear if it's the checksum at fault or if there really is corruption in the VPD area somewhere. Some time ago there was a flurry of reports and suggested quick fixes for this, but I have not seen any that worked when tried on this machine. Oliver -- can you please attach a slight modification to your patch, so that it logs the error once when it first occurs, and then sets the checksum to what it
