WMP utterly fails to play Region 1 DVD, nor does MS provide any solution for playing DVD. CCCP is probably the best codec pack to install if you must install one, however it still can conflict with other codecs, so I avoid it unless absolutely necessary. The drive has been working perfectly since we bought the Dell Laptop 3 months ago. put back the latest but un-modified stock firmware on that Pioneer DVD drive and the WMP can't play dvd error messages went away. get it directly from the official site instead.

So every edition of Win7 from Home Premium and up has the DVD codec built in, so no one should be recommending codec packs to fix this issue. Here are a few things you can try though I don't know if they will help. 1. CDs play ok.
