So it seems it's something other than a firewall issue. I am not using admin to ping. I don't know DD-WRT very well, but dig around for iptables or ipchains and look for rules which may be preventing interfaces from contacting each other. Go through the same process on the other computer (if running XP) to enable printer and file sharing on there too.
All Vista firewalls are disabled and there is no other firewall software that I know of.
