Cannot Ping Child Domain Name
I would like you to tell the reason for this. I added a child domain to it, hostname "host2" and It is Windows 2003 Standard R2. I can obviously cheat with CNAMEs in the CORP controller, but that's just silly to do for all the machines I'll be joining. You can also use Stubs, but to keep it simple, let's delegate > the child zone. http://fortecrm.net/cannot-ping/cannot-ping-pc-on-domain.html
The ip addresses of the two parent.com dc are in the fowarders for the child.parent.com domain but I still cannot ping or contact them either by ip or hostname. Please try to Add the DNS suffixes to resolve this issue. However, I could ping host2's FQDN no problem; "host2.city2.ParentDomain.com" The Parent, host1, knows about the child domain and its DC in the DNS service. What now?
If that's the case, simply set up a cname record for server1.corp.domain pointing to server1.child.corp.domain Or add option 119 to DHCP and specify the alternate suffixes to be searched. 0 Ace Fekay, MCSE 2003 & 2000, MCSA 2003 & 2000, MCSE+I, MCT, MVP Microsoft MVP - Directory Services Microsoft Certified Trainer Having difficulty reading or finding responses to your post? You would think it would not work in either.
I did a deligation of the child zone under my parent DNS zone, but doesn't seem to be taking effect.
