Cannot Ping Between Two Computers

Both the new computer and the old one that won't connect are win7 Pro 64 bit. Both have network and internet access. Below is a list of what I've tried. 1) Request timed out. Also, if you want to enable printer and file sharing, for XP open windows explorer (start menu>all programs>accessories>windows explorer). The desktop computer name is HAL.
